About GE Margin
A free Grand Exchange tracker built by OSRS players who wanted better tools for everyone.
Who We Are
GE Margin is built and maintained by a small team of Old School RuneScape players. We have been playing OSRS since the original 2007 era — through the days of standing in Varrock West Bank spamming "selling lobsters 250 each" and into the modern Grand Exchange. Between us we have thousands of hours of playtime spanning PvM, skilling, and of course, flipping.
We started GE Margin in 2025 because we wanted a tool that did one thing well: show accurate, real-time Grand Exchange data without barriers. The site grew from a simple flip finder into a full suite of 17 calculators, price alerts, a profit tracker, and over 4,500 individual item pages. Everything is built on Next.js and powered by the OSRS Wiki's public API.
We are not a company. There is no VC funding, no marketing department, and no growth targets. GE Margin is a community project built in our spare time because we genuinely enjoy both the game and the challenge of building useful software. We use the tools ourselves every day.
Our Data
Every number on GE Margin comes from the OSRS Wiki Real-Time Prices API, a community-maintained data source that records actual Grand Exchange transactions. The API reports instant buy and sell prices for every tradeable item, updated every 60 seconds. We maintain a 10-minute in-memory cache to balance freshness with performance.
Margins are calculated as: sell price minus buy price minus the 2% GE tax (capped at 5M GP). This gives you the true net profit per item after tax. Each item also receives a flip rating from 1 to 10 based on its profit per hour, accounting for margin size, buy limits, and trading volume.
We apply quality filters to curated lists like Daily Deals and the homepage ticker. Items need meaningful margins (at least 100 GP or 1% of buy price), a buy limit of 50 or more, and real trading volume to appear in recommendations. This prevents low-liquidity items from cluttering results.
How We Build the Site
GE Margin is built with Next.js 14 and hosted on Cloudflare Pages for fast global delivery. The calculators, guides, and item pages are all server-rendered for SEO and performance. Interactive features like the profit tracker, watchlist, and price alerts use client-side React components with data persisted in your browser's local storage for guest users.
If you sign in with Discord, your favourites, alerts, and trade history sync to our database so you can access them across devices. We chose Discord OAuth because most OSRS players already have a Discord account — it takes two seconds and we never see your password. We do not track you across the web, sell your data, or use it for anything other than powering the features you opted into.

The guides on this site are written and updated by the team based on our own experience flipping and merching. If you spot outdated information or have a correction, let us know — accuracy matters more to us than publishing speed.
